I’ve learned that setting intentions is more than just thinking about what I want or daydreaming about the future. It’s about choosing where I want to focus my energy, time, and heart. When I set intentions with purpose, I feel like I’m giving myself direction...a way to stay grounded in what really matters.
Intentions aren’t just about what I want to do...they’re about how I want to be. They help me stay aligned with my values, especially when life gets messy or distracting. When I’m intentional, I feel like I’m not just going through the motions...I’m actually living with purpose.
The beautiful part? My energy follows wherever I place my attention. If I wake up and set the intention to be patient or kind, I start noticing moments where I can practice that. My thoughts shift and so does how I show up.
For me, goals and intentions work hand in hand. A goal might be something like finishing a project, but the intention behind it...like staying focused or giving my best effort...is what fuels me. The goal gives me direction, but the intention gives it meaning.
Here’s how I like to set my intentions:
-
I check in with myself and ask: What’s truly important to me right now?
-
I get clear, but I stay open life isn’t always predictable.
-
I write my intentions down so I can come back to them when I need a reminder.
-
And most importantly, I take action. An intention is just a thought until I actually start living it.
Living with intention makes even the small things feel sacred. Whether I’m creating art, having a conversation, or taking care of myself...it all means more when I know why I’m doing it.
Setting intentions helps me shape my life into something that feels real, honest, and aligned with who I am becoming. One intention at a time, I’m building the kind of life I want to live.
